S.O.A.P

I am the world's worst at studying the Bible. I have struggled to find a method that works for me. Until recently, I would just simply read the Bible and only got a little understanding, not the deep understanding I was longing for. A few weeks ago I stumbled on the SOAP method, first I wasn't sure, I have tried many with no success, but this method is so easy, and really has helped me in my own Bible study time.  I know the name may throw you off, my thought was, what does SOAP have to do with studying the Bible, but let me explain.
S- stands for Scripture - write out the scripture you are studying. Writing it out helps us slow down and read more carefully.

O- stands for observation- what do you see in the verses you are reading, what words are used over and over, what word or words pop out to you.

A- stands for application- how can I apply this verse to my life? What is God saying today? What changes do I need to make.

P-stands for prayer- Pray Gods Word back to him.

Just as I have struggled with personal Bible study, I feel others may to, and that is why I decided to share this method. I pray it helps others as much as it has helped me.

In Christ,
April
